French ‘Crystal’ Regulator
A very substantial and solid French Mantel clock constructed of Gilded brass and thick bevelled white glass or ‘Crystal’. The two piece dial shows the visible escapement which is a very nice feature and more desireable than without. The pendulum has two sealed glass tubes filled with mercury which allows for the fluctuation in temperatures and gives them the ‘Regulator’ name…technically a clock which strikes cannot be a regulator but the name seems to have stuck with these over the years as they are such good timekeepers. The case design is the very best on this one with grooved corners and front and rear opening doors. The gilding has worn a little over the 120-140 years ! we can attend to this but it does add a large cost to the clock and we thought it best to let the customer decide as some of our customers like they’re clocks looking old and some like them looking quite bright and ‘new’.
